12:08 pm	First Beach, First Pool Raphael was excited by the ocean when we took him to the beach. He was nervous but grinning. He likes playing with the sand, poking at it and moving it around. He was brave when we took him to a swimming pool, running and crawling and jumping around, happy to get back in even after falling under the water. (Comment on this)

6:55 pm	Today, Raphael saw leaves blowing in the wind outside. He reached towards them and looked as though he was trying to figure out what they were. My father took him on a walk outside around the house. He's gotten remarkably sturdy on his feet. Yesterday, he grabbed a pair of gloves and brought them to me. I showed them how I could put them on and take them off of my hands. I showed him that they were kind of big for baby hands. He stared at them, and put them on and took them off of his hands, and gave them back to me to put on my hands, trying to figure them out. (Comment on this)

1:27 am	Art Baby Yesterday, Raphael had his first experience with a crayon, when we gave him one to sign his great grandmother's Get Well card. He made one big slash across the page in green crayon. I guided his hand to help write his name. He's a musical baby. He dances to music he likes, back and forth. Or when sitting, waves his hands and feet. Today he started singing along to the music, and then kept singing after it was over, making his own song. (Comment on this)

9:06 pm	Today was warm and sunny, and Raphael heard the birds outside singing. He was confused at what the chirping was, and listened carefully for a while. (Comment on this)

9:23 pm	Raphael can walk across the room, make sharp changes in direction, and pick up things on the floor without kneeling down. (1 Comment |Comment on this)

6:55 pm	Raphael is easily fascinated. Wow, nesting cups and go inside of each other. Rings can go around a stick, in order. The pull boat goes if he pulls the string. Legos stack on top of each other. Puzzle blocks fit together. Etc. Learning any new task, any new cause-effect relationship, greatly amuses him. (Comment on this)

12:45 pm	Raphael and I went to a storytelling for babies at the Carnegie Library. He was delighted to be in the Children's section, crawling around and trying to pull every book off of every shelf. He liked the storytelling; he liked moving to the rhymes but continued to do a lot of crawling around to get at books or toys or unexplored sections of the library. He was far more active than any of the other babies. (Comment on this)

1:27 pm	Raphael learned to wave goodbye a while back, often taking the cue "I can no longer see them" as the time to start waving. He just learned the sign for baby. He signs baby when he sees pictures of babies, or once when he saw himself in a mirror. (Comment on this)

12:16 pm	Raphael wants to play games. He likes playing basketball in the bathtub. He frequently starts games of catch with me. I'm not sure what games to play with him. (Comment on this)

8:42 pm	Raphael is learning to walk, taking up to a dozen steps at a time. Raphael puts a ball in his basketball net and then claps, because he just earned points. Raphael loves music, fascinated by music boxes and music videos. (Comment on this)

5:17 pm	Stand! Raphael's seemed very proud of his ability to stand today. He'll pull himself up to standing, stand without support, and grin and make noises at me. (Comment on this)
3:30 pm	Computer Baby I just gave Raphael his eMate http://www.ac-scanmac.dk/apple_museum/message/emate_300.html to play with, and he's happy to have a keyboard to type on or bash at. (Comment on this)
3:20 pm	Escher Lizards Red, green, and blue foam Escher lizards http://www.iproject.com/lizards/lizards.html decorate Raphael's walls. He's been eager to get them down and play with them since he saw them. Today I got some down for him and put them on top of him. He grinned widely and held them up to show me. Then he pulled them apart. Then he got off the bed, but brought one of the red ones with him, and held it up to show me. Then he crawled enthusiastically down the hall with it, sliding it along ahead of him. (Comment on this)

9:50 am	Raphael loves his board/rag books, but saw Mommy reading a normal book. He grabbed it and flipped through it, fascinated by all the pages. Then he took it in his hand and crawled off with it to other rooms. (Comment on this)
12:28 am	Raphael's just started walking. He'll want to go somewhere and take a step towards it, then another, then maybe another, then plop over. Then he says "plop". (1 Comment |Comment on this)

4:50 pm	Raphael discovered my drum today, and was quite happy to pound at it. He's been happy to play with his pianos, drums, anything else he can make noise on. Almost everytime he hears music, he starts to dance, back and forth, up and down. (Comment on this)
2:00 pm	Raphael loves books. He'll give me books one after the other to read. He wants to play with my computer, is eager to look at the screen and pound the keyboard. He recently tried ice cream, and was very sad when it was finished. He's gotten very good at feeding himself with a spoon. (Comment on this)
